Occurrence: Albania, Armenia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Belgium, Bosnia, Bulgaria, Congo—Brazzaville, Congo— Kinshasa (Zaire), Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Ghana, Greece, Hungary, India, Iran, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Kyrgizstan, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Spain, Sri Lanka, Sweden, Switzerland, Tunisia, Turkey, United Kingdom (WPC 2023).

Known localities in Hungary: Újszentmargita ( Mahnert 1983).

New data: nil.

Habitat preference: The earlier literature mentions this species mostly from compost heaps, but also from dead wood and from bird nests ( Beier 1963a; Legg & Jones 1988, Christophoryová et al. 2011d). It was reported from decomposed organic material in Albania ( Červená et al. 2021a). In Slovakia, Christophoryová et al. (2011d) reported it from bird nests, and Krajčovičová et al. (2012) also collected it by sifting rotten hay, in garden waste and in compost.

Remarks: The only known record of L. nodosus is from Hortobágy National Park ( Mahnert 1983).
