Known localities in Hungary: Biatorbágy; Szerencs ( Szent-Ivány 1941). Varbó: Örvény-kő ( Novák 2012). Szárliget (Novák, 2013). Réde; Tihany (Novák, 2015). Budapest: Kamaraerdő ( Novák 2016).
New data: Gödöllő: maple forest, 28.02.2010, leg. TN (HNHM Pseud-1698: 1♂, 1♀) ;); Kerecsend : Fácános-berek, mixed forest of maple and oak, 23.04.1983, leg. LA (HNHM Pseud:1540: 1♂) ; Valkó : Gödöllő Nature Reserve, 24. forest, 26.05.1991, leg. OM (HNHM Pseud-1523: 1♂) .
Habitat preference: Beier (1963a) recorded C. similis from forest leaf litter and from debris after floods. In Slovakia, Christophoryová (2013) found it in oak-hornbeam forests. In Hungary, it has been found in mixed linden and ash forests, and in meadows (Novák 2013), and in oak forests ( Novák 2016). During the present investigation it was found in maple forest, and in mixed forest of maple and oak.
Remarks: the specimens identified by Szent-Ivány (1941) as Withius subruber proved to be representatives of C. similis . The species since has been found in several Hungarian localities ( Novák 2012, 2013, 2015, 2016).
