Occurrence: Germany, Greece, Hungary, North Macedonia, Romania (WPC 2023).

Known localities in Hungary: Egyek: Ohati Forest; Nagyhegyes: Görbehát; Újszentmargita: Margitai Forest ( Mahnert 1983).

New data: Bátorliget: Fényi Forest , sifted, 28.05.2011, leg. JN (HNHM Pseud-1323: 1 adult); Valkó: forest part no. 24, 26.05.1991, leg. OM (HNHM Pseud-1885: 1♀) .

Habitat preference: According to Beier (1963a), Ephippiochthonius tuberculatus has been found in caves and in sifted material (probably leaf litter or plant debris). In Albania it was found in decomposing organic material, and in leaf litter and soil ( Červená et al. 2021a). Mahnert (1983) found it in plainland oak forest in Hungary, and it has also been found in the forehills of the Bükk Mts at 291m asl ( Novák 2012). During the present study it was also found in plainland oak forest.

Remarks: Ephippiochthonius tuberculatus was first reported from Hungary by Mahnert (1983), and it is known only from the central and eastern regions of the country.
