Occurrence: Austria, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Romania, Switzerland (WPC 2023).
Known localities in Hungary: Dobogókő; Szakonyfalu ( Novák 2020).
New data: nil.
Habitat preference: this species is known from leaf litter, grass ( Beier 1963a), and from leaf litter of beech forest ( Novák 2020).
Remarks: Chthonius submontanus was recently redescribed by Gardini (2009). This species was reported from the western parts of Hungary ( Novák 2020).
