Type Locality: México, Baja California Norte, San Martín Isl.
Vernacular Names: San Martin Woodrat.
Distribution: Known only from the type locality.
Conservation: IUCN – Endangered.
Discussion: Subgenus Neotoma , lepida species group ( sensu Edwards and Bradley, 2002 b ). Listed as nominal species of N. lepida group by Goldman (1932); also see Mascarello (1978). Not collected since 1963, possibly extinct due to domestic cat predation (see Alvarez-Castañeda and Cortés-Calva, 1999). See Cortés-Calva et al. (2001, Mammalian Species, 657).
