Material examined
Zikhron, 8.06 .1968 , 1 ♂ (Kugler), TAU.
Distribution
Palaearctic: Middle East: Egypt, Israel *, Turkey. Ukraine, Russia (Astrakhan, North Caucasus), Kazakhstan, Middle Asia, Mongolia, China (Gansu, Neimenggu).
Habits
Very psammophilous and xerophilic species. Bred from nests of sphecid wasps Bembicinus asiaticus Gussakovskij, 1935 , Sceliphron destillatorium Illiger, 1807 , Stizus transcaspicus Radoszkowski, 1893 , Tachysphex schmiedeknechti Kohl, 1883 .
Taxonomic notes
Rohdendorf (1935) gave the frontal width as the only difference between S. deserta deserta (≤0.34 × head width) and S. deserta aegyptiaca (≈0.35 × head width). This is here considered insufficient for a separation into subspecies.
