Description. Female ( Figs. 8–10 View FIGURES 7–10 ). Head mostly dark brown; central area of gulamentum dark reddish brown; mouthparts reddish brown, except for yellowish-brown labial palpomeres I–II and maxillary palpomeres I–III, and yellow labial palpomere III and maxillary palpomere IV. Anteclypeus mostly brownish. Labrum reddish brown. Scape brown on base, gradually reddish brown toward apex; pedicel reddish brown; antennomeres light reddish brown basally (this area gradually shorter toward distal antennomeres), gradually darker toward brown apex. Prothorax mostly dark brown; pronotum dark reddish brown anteriorly and posteriorly, with arched, dark band on each side of central area on anterior half. Ventral surface of meso- and metathorax dark brown, except narrow, irregular reddish brown areas near metacoxae. Scutellum dark brown. Elytra dark reddish brown on base, gradually lighter toward apex (almost orangish brown posteriorly), except: dark brown area surrounding punctures; transverse, dark band on anterior fifth, projected forward on centrobasal crest, wide between centrobasal crest and suture, narrower, more irregular, slightly oblique between centrobasal crest and humeral carina; longitudinal, arched dark brown band dorsally from just before middle to posterior third; longitudinal, fragmented dark brown band on dorsal surface of posterior quarter (not reaching apex); and subcircular brown areas close to epipleural margin. Coxae mostly brownish; trochanters, base of profemora, and meso- and metafemoral peduncles pale yellow; pro- and mesofemoral clubs dark reddish brown dorsally, dark brown laterally and ventrally, except reddish brown central area of ventral surface, which do not reaches apex; metafemoral club mostly reddish brown; tibiae and tarsi mostly dark reddish brown, darker on some areas. Abdominal ventrites mostly reddish brown, except central area distinctly dark brown, especially on I–IV.
Head. Frons finely, abundantly punctate; with grayish-white pubescence partially obscuring integument. Vertex and area behind eyes finely, abundantly punctate (punctures slightly sparser than those on frons); with both, yellowish and grayish-white pubescence partially obscuring integument, except glabrous median groove, and sparser pubescence close to prothorax on area behind lower eye lobes; with a few erect yellowish setae close to eyes. Genae abundantly micropunctate, except smooth apex; with grayish-white pubescence not obscuring integument, except glabrous smooth area, with a few long, erect dark setae interspersed. Antennal tubercles with sculpturing as on frons; with grayish-white pubescence, except pale yellow pubescence toward apex near apex of central area. Postclypeus with somewhat sparse grayish-white pubescence centrally, glabrous on remaining surface, with a few long, erect dark setae on wide central area. Labrum coplanar with anteclypeus posteriorly, inclined anteriorly; with long, erect, sparse dark setae on coplanar area. Gulamentum smooth, glabrous, except narrow anterior area with grayishwhite pubescence. Distance between upper eye lobes 0.16 times length of scape (0.19 times distance between outer margins of eyes); in frontal view, distance between lower eye lobes 0.40 times length of scape (0.48 times distance between outer margins of eyes). Antennae 1.85 times elytral length, reaching elytral apex just before middle of antennomere VII. Scape, pedicel and antennomeres with yellowish-white pubescence, appearing to be lighter on some areas due to the integument color; ventral surface of scape with long, erect yellowish-brown setae, gradually more abundant toward apex, and short, thick black setae interspersed; ventral surface of antennomeres III–V with long, erect, sparse yellowish-brown setae, and short, thick, black setae interspersed (both setae sparser toward V); remaining antennomeres with short, erect, sparse yellowish-white setae ventrally. Antennal formula (ratio) based on antennomere III: scape = 1.13; pedicel = 0.09; IV = 0.92; V = 0.79; VI = 0.67; VII = 0.60; VIII = 0.57; IX = 0.52; X = 0.48; XI = 0.44.
Thorax. Prothorax transverse; sides with rounded gibbosity centrally, distinctly divergent from anterolateral angles to central gibbosity, almost parallel-sided from central gibbosity to posterolateral angles. Pronotum with three slightly elevated gibbosities, one arched on each side of anterior half (mostly covered by the dark arched band), another longitudinal, placed centrally; coarsely, sparsely punctate between gibbosities, on arched row on anterior half, and on two sinuous rows on posterior area; mostly with yellowish-white pubescence obscuring integument, with yellowish-brown pubescence on some areas, and dark-brown pubescence on arched dark areas. Sides of prothorax with abundant yellowish-brown pubescence not obscuring integument (more yellowish-white depending on light intensity). Prosternum with pale-yellow pubescence not obscuring integument (more yellowish-white depending on light intensity). Narrowest area of prosternal process about 0.25 times width of procoxal cavity. Ventral surface of meso- and metathorax mostly with yellowish-white pubescence not obscuring integument, except sides of mesoventrite, parts of mesanepisternum, base and apex of metanepisternum, and sides of posterior area of metaventrite with pubescence slightly denser, longer and yellowish-brown. Narrowest area of mesoventral process about 0.35 times width of mesocoxal cavity. Scutellum with dense yellowish-brown pubescence laterally, sparser, yellowish-white centrally. Elytra. Coarsely, somewhat sparsely punctate on anterior half, punctures distinctly sparser on posterior half; centrobasal crest elevated, with long, erect, abundant black setae dorsally. Pubescence dark brown on anterior dark area, brown on remaining dark areas; yellowish brown interspersed with yellowish-white pubescence between base and transverse dark band; whitish interspersed with yellowish-brown pubescence on central area close to transverse dark macula, along suture (except nearly glabrous small circular areas), on sides of dorsal surface between transverse dark macula and middle, on irregular, elongated area between arched posterior dark band and suture, and on irregular areas on posterior third; remaining surface with yellowish-brown pubescence with or without whitish pubescence interspersed, except subcircular areas with brownish pubescence close to epipleural margin. Outer apical angle with long, subspiniform projection; sutural angle with short, subrounded projection. Legs. Femora with yellowish-white pubescence not obscuring integument; metafemora not reaching elytral apex. Protibiae with yellowish-white pubescence on basal 2/3, yellowish-brown on posterior third (longer and denser ventrally); meso- and metatibiae with whitish pubescence on basal half, brownish on posterior half. Tarsomeres I with dense whitish pubescence (more yellowish depending on light intensity), and remaining tarsomeres with sparse yellowish-brown pubescence.
Abdomen. Ventrites with abundant yellowish-white pubescence not obscuring integument. Posterior margin of ventrite V concave.
Dimensions in mm (1 f#). Total length, 9.50; prothorax: length, 1.50; anterior width, 1.60; posterior width, 2.05; widest prothoracic width, 2.20; humeral width, 3.20; elytral length, 7.05.
Material examined. BRAZIL, São Paulo (new state record): Boracéia , 1 f#, 27.VIII.1948, no collector indicated ( MZSP) .
Remarks. Lathroeus zikani was described based on male, and the female remained unknown until now. The male of this species ( Fig. 7 View FIGURES 7–10 ) differs from the female especially by the antennae longer (2.1 times elytral length), reaching elytral apex before apex of antennomere VI, and metafemora slightly surpassing elytral apex.
Monné (2016) recorded Anisopodesthes zikani from the Brazilian states of Espírito Santo and São Paulo. However, it was a mistake, and the species was formally known only from the Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro since the original description.
