Type Locality: China, Shaanxi, " 45 miles [72 km] S.E. of Feng-siang-fu [Feng Xian], Shen-si, 10,500' [3200 m]".

Vernacular Names: Chinese Shrew.

Distribution: C and W China.

Conservation: IUCN – Vulnerable.

Discussion: Subgenus Sorex . Formerly regarded as conspecific with isodon ; see Corbet (1978 c) and Hoffmann (1987) for discussion and specific boundaries.
