Genus Barrosia n. gen.
Type species. Barrosia balearica n. sp.
Diagnosis. Colony encrusting, unilaminar. Autozooidal frontal surface almost entirely membranous. Articulated oral spines present. Gymnocyst vestigial, comprising only a narrow rim that bears articulated periopesial spines; cryptocyst absent. Mural septula present, uniporous. Ovicell kenozooidal, with distal erect hollow spines and a large window in the ectooecium; uniporous distal septula present. Avicularia absent. Ancestrula tatiform.
Etymology. The genus is dedicated to Mr Manuel Gerónimo Barroso, the first Spanish bryozoologist, who achieved much significant work on this group.
