GeOchUs lateralis Broun, 1914 ( Fig. 16 View Fig )

Geochus lateralis Broun 1914b: 224 . Type locality: Mount Hutt, near Methven.

Type Depository. BMNH :LT,3 PLT; MHNP :1 PLT.

Distribution. New Zealand (MC).

Remarks. Broun did not indicate the number of specimens examined to establish this name. Three syntypes were located in the Broun collection (BMNH) and from MHNP, one that we designate as the lectotype to stabilize the epithet, with the two remaining specimens becoming paralectotypes. There was one additional specimen located in the Broun collection (BMNH) labeled as a variant that we consider not part of the syntype series.

We place this species into a species group with G. tibialis .

Type Material Examined. Lectotype, here designated ( BMNH): card-mounted, “3617 [in Broun’s hand]//New Zealand. [red underline] Broun Coll. Brit. Mus. 1922-482.// Mt Hutt. 23.4.1912. [in Broun’s hand]// Geochus lateralis [in Broun’s hand]” . Paralectotypes: 3 ( BMNH), same but one mounted dorsally; 1 ( MHNP), same but with “ MUSEUM PARIS NOUVELLE-ZĖLANDE COMM BROUN 1914 [pink card]” .
