scientific name

Stigmella carpinella (Heinemann, 1862)
status

Stigmella carpinella (Heinemann, 1862)   — New for France ( Fig. 9–10)

Misidentification: Nepticula floslactella   ; Brown & Gouin 1917: 407— 33 [partim, on Carpinus   ].

Material. 76: 1♂, Rouen, Chrétien, gen. EvN3506 ( MNHN)   .

Remarks. There is not a single literature reference to this species from France, but Brown & Gouin’s record of S. floslactella   on Carpinus   very likely belongs to this species. The specimen from Rouen, of which the male genitalia ( Fig. 9–10) were examined by EvN, was already identified as Nepticula carpinella   by Chrétien, and apparently later overlooked. This species is likely to be much commoner in France.
