Remarks. Tenanted mines of S. crataegella are usually easy to identify by the green larva, the coiled frass and the occurrence in summer (June to August). In the south a possible second generation occurs as well. Before S. crataegella was described in 1936 (and partly thereafter as well), these mines were mistaken for S. oxyacanthella . We can assume that all records of larvae and mines of S. oxyacanthella from the summer (such as those cited above) refer to S. crataegella . Widespread and common in sunny places throughout France.
