Remarks. See remarks under S. anomalella . In the collection of Chrétien we found a pair of specimens labelled ‘Alchém.’, which we presume he reared from Alchemilla sp. This is the only record we know of this hostplant, and we never have seen nepticulid mines on it. There is a slight possibility of confusion with some Potentilla species , of which the leaves resemble those of Alchemilla alpina . Stigmella centifoliella feeds also on Sanguisorba , as does S. anomalella , and we frequently have seen mines which may be attributable to either of these two species. Such mines often are mistaken for those of S. poterii (see excluded species). The records by Courtois (1999b, 2001b, 2002) most likely belong to this species, since he recorded a fasciate species making cocoons on the leaf. The occurrence of this species on Corsica has not yet been confirmed, but is likely.
