Type Locality: Indonesia, Prov. of Papua, Salawati Isl.

Vernacular Names: Lesser Papuan Pipistrelle.

Synonyms: Pipistrellus (Pipistrellus) orientalis Meyer 1899 .

Distribution: Seram, Aru Isls, Baik-Supiori, New Guinea, New Ireland (Bismarck Arch.), adjacent small islands.

Conservation: IUCN 2003 and IUCN / SSC Action Plan (2001) – Lower Risk (nt).

Discussion: Subgenus Pipistrellus . Included in tenuis by many authors, but see Kitchener et al. (1986); also see Flannery (1995 a, b) and Bonaccorso (1998).
