76. Campylodiscus neofastuosus Ruck & Nakov ( Figs 165–175 View FIGURES 165–175 , 222, 223 View FIGURES 219–223 )

Basionym: Navicula fastuosa Ehrenberg.

Synonym: Surirella fastuosa (Ehrenberg) Ehrenberg.

Type locality: Tĵrn Island, Bohuslän, Sweden.

References: Goldman et al. 1990, p. 29, figs 5–23; Witkowski et al. 2000, p. 414, pl. 215, figs 1–3, pl. 216, fig. 4; Stidolph et al. 2012, pl. 6, figs 122–126, 135, pl. 14, figs 8, 9, 20, 21, pl. 16, figs 69–71, pl. 27, figs 120–123, 125, pl. 38, figs 20–22, pl. 40, figs 32–39, pl. 44, fig. 11, pl. 47, fig. 4, pl. 49, fig. 33; Ruck et al. 2016, p. 3.

Morphometrics: Valves 61–122 ((30) 50–130 (225)) μm long, 43–63 (30–100) μm wide, transapical costae (infundibula) 12–35 (10–20) in 100 μm, and fibulae (1–2) 10 μm.

Remarks: Valves usually oval-elliptical in outlines and less than or above 70 μm in length, with a mixture of elongate and ovoid-elliptical, and occasionally concave valve margins in the middle. Valves show complex morphology, isopolar or heteropolar, with remarkable variation in morphology and dimension of valves ( Paddock 1985, Goldman et al. 1990). In this survey, Janus-like frustules with completely different morphology on both valves were found, particular in the outline of central ridge.

This species is one of the most commonly reported marine species and is distributed in tropical and subtropical regions as well as temperate zones. However, isopolar and large species are frequent and abundant in tropical coasts. Generally, they are found along the European coasts and are cosmopolitan in distribution ( Witkowski et al. 2000). They are also frequent and abundant in tropical regions; Philippines, Guam, Society Islands, Tahiti, Galapagos Islands and the New Hebrides of the Pacific Oceans, Mahé Island of the Seychelles in the west Indian Ocean, Puerto Rico and Belize in the Caribbean Sea, the Bahamas, Bermuda and the Cape Verde Islands in the Atlantic Ocean ( Ricard 1977, Goldman et al. 1990, Lobban et al 2012, Stidolph et al. 2012). This taxon was frequently encountered in the Seogwipo coast of Jeju Island, South Korea.
