Aethes francillana ( Fabricius, 1794) View in CoL = Aethes eichleri Razowski, 1983 syn. nov.
( Figs 13–17 View FIGURES 10–17 )
Material examined. 2♂, 1♀, Croatia. Tribunj , 4.ix.2010 ; 17.viii.2014 . 4♂, North Macedonia. Krivolak near Negotino, 10.vi.2017, 12.vi.2017 DNA Barcode TMLF Lep 28717 ; 3♀, Pepelište near Negotino, 23.vi.2018 .
Molecular data. BIN BOLD: BOLD AAP 7561 (n=23). There are no differences from the barcoded specimens from Italy, Portugal, Austria, Germany, the Netherlands and Finland.
Distribution. Canary Islands, North Africa, Europe, Russia (Central part of the European Russia, Crimea, Don region, Caucasus, Volga region, Ural, Krasnoyarsk region), Transcaucasia, Asia Minor, Iran, Near East, Kazakhstan, Central Asia, Afghanistan ( Fabricius 1794; Razowski 1970, 2002, 2009; Kuznetzov 1978; Budashkin 2009; Sinev et al. 2019).
Note. Aethes eichleri was described based on single female collected in Pirin Mountains in Bulgaria. The male of this species remained unknown ( Razowski 1983, 2002, 2009).
The examined females from Croatia and North Macedonia match well to Ae. eichleri . However, males collected sympatrically with females of A. eichleri and similar to them externally have no differences in the genitalia from specimens of A. francillana . Similarly, the DNA barcoding data did not reveal any differences between A. francillana and our specimens. Hence we establish the above synonymy.
