Orchis sancta Linnaeus View in CoL , Systema Naturae, ed. 10, 2: 1242. 1759.
["Habitat in Palaestina."] Sp. Pl., ed. 2, 2: 1330 (1763). RCN: 6802.
Lectotype (Al-Eisawi in Kew Bull. 41: 371. 1986): Hasselquist, Herb. Linn. No. 1054.12 ( LINN) .
Current name: Anacamptis sancta (L.) R.M. Bateman View in CoL View at ENA & al. ( Orchidaceae ).
Note: This name appears first in Fl. Palaestina: 29 (1756). However, there it is a nomen nudum as the validating diagnosis merely states " Orchis sancta , radix desuit in speciminibus" (the root lacking in the specimens). The name dates from 1759, rather than 1763 as suggested by Wood (in Kew Mag. 10: 11. 1993). The type is figured by Baumann & al. (in Mitteilungsbl. Arbeitskr. Heim. Orchid. Baden-Württemberg 21: 647, Abb. 41. 1989).
