Hatigoria praeiens Distant, 1908 View in CoL

( Figs. 1 View FIGURE 1 , 4 View FIGURE 4 )

Hatigoria praeiens Distant, 1908: 258 View in CoL ;

Hatigoria praeiens Distant, Evans, 1946: 47 View in CoL ; Metcalf 1962: 10.

Length: ♂ 13.5 mm, ♀ 16.0 mm.

External morphology. Body yellow brown. Crown ( Figs. 1A, D View FIGURE 1 ) slightly more than 2.0x longer than wide; anterior process evenly curved dorsad with margin parallel in lateral view, with lateral ridge simple and legible, unbranched, base of process with weak transverse carina; ocelli located on small protuberance, median longitudinal carina extended entire length of crown but somewhat weak near base. Face ( Fig. 1C View FIGURE 1 ) with clypeal sulcus obvious and arcuate, anteclypeus with one indistinct median longitudinal carina, apex slightly surpassing lower margin of gena, antennal ridges moderately developed and declinate. Pronotum ( Figs. 1A, D View FIGURE 1 ) with dorsal surface mainly covered with black setae and lateral surface covered with light-colored setae, anterior margin somewhat arcuate, depressed anterolaterally, lateral margins weakly ridged and concave, obviously longer than anterior margin. Exposed part of mesonotum ( Figs. 1A, D View FIGURE 1 ) about as long as scutellum, scutellum slightly swollen distad of scutoscutellar sulcus. Abdomen with irregular yellow patches on 4th and 5th tergites laterally. Hind femur macrosetal formula 2+1+1, with ca. 10, 12 and 19 setae in rows AD, PD, AV respectively; tarsus missing in available specimen.

Male genitalia. Pygofer ( Fig. 1F–H View FIGURE 1 ) outer margins nearly straight except base convex in dorsal view; subgenital plate ( Fig. 1I View FIGURE 1 ) slightly shorter than pygofer, outer margins moderately evenly convex, gradually narrowing posteriorly, apex somewhat blunt; ventral appendages about as long as subgenital plate, with basal 1/3 extended along pygofer margin, terminal 2/3 strongly recurved anteromesad with prominent posterior spine at apex of curve; lateral margins of connective ( Figs. 1J–L View FIGURE 1 ) slightly vertically expanded into keeled process and touching each other medially in dorsal view, apex of vertical process broader than rest and apically acute and backward curved in lateral view; style about 3.0x connective length, apophysis reniform and surpassing apex of connective, apex bluntly rounded with about five to seven setae; aedeagal shaft tubular, evenly curved dorsad and slightly tapered distally in lateral view, with base sunken and anterior surface transversely rugose, slight lateral oblique flange present near midlength, gonopore at apex.

Female. Sternite VII ( Fig. 4A View FIGURE 4 ) a little damaged in available specimen, apparently with posterior margin nearly straight. Pygofer ( Figs. 4B View FIGURE 4 ) slightly emarginate dorsoapically rather than deeply bifid, ovipositor not reaching pygofer apex. First valvulae ( Figs. 4C View FIGURE 4 ) symmetrical and with dorsoapical sculpture area densely strigate. Second valvulae ( Figs. 4D View FIGURE 4 ) blade-like, dorsal margin somewhat straight and apical half with many small teeth, distal part with some ducts, ventral margin evenly convex. Third valvulae ( Fig. 4E View FIGURE 4 ) sheath-shaped with many small setae along ventral margin.

Material examined. 1♀ (Holotype): “Type; Syn-type; Distant coll. 1911–383.; Karen Hills (Doherty); Hatigo- ria praeiens Dist. ” ( BMNH) ; 1♂: N. E. Myanmar, 23.V.1964, R. Malaise ( BMNH) .

Distribution. Myanmar.

Notes. Although Distant labeled the type specimen as “Syn-type”, we found only one type specimen in the BMNH. One male specimen, also from Myanmar and in the BMNH, is conspecific with Distant’s type .
