Taxonomy: The species was described from the island of Sumatra by Schedl (1971). It was correctly transferred to Cryptoxyleborus by Wood and Bright (1992). The species is closely related to C. turbineus , but smaller and with slightly different elytral sculpture.

Distribution: The species was previously known only from Indonesia (Sumatera). It is recorded here for the first time from southern Thailand.
