Description. Male. Integument blackish. Pubescence predominantly grayish except for black maculae as follows: a median longitudinal line on pronotum and two lines, more or less interrupted, on each side of middle; elytra with large post-median transverse belt, projecting forward at the suture and bifurcate behind scutellum and prolonged at margins to apices and humeri; and minute round spot before apices.

Antennae reaching apices of elytra at apex of antennomere V. Sides of prothorax with minute obtuse tubercle on posterior third, line of minute punctures parallel to posterior margin. Elytra with apices transversely subtruncate, external angle with minute obtuse projection. Punctures large and scattered on basal half, obsolete on distal half. Fifth urotergite and urosternite subtruncate at distal extremity. Metatarsomere I as long as II+III.

Female. Antennae reaching apices of elytra at distal extremity of antennomere VI; ovipositor projecting beyond apical apices, last urotergite acute; last urosternite semicircularly truncate, with long hairs at apex.

Measurements (mm), male/female. Total length, 4.7–4.9/5.8–6.0; prothorax length, 1.0–1.1/1.2–1.2; prothorax width, 1.4–1.4/1.7–1.7; elytral length, 3.2–3.4/4.2–4.4; humeral width, 2.1–2.2./2.4–3.0.

Etymology. This species is named for Gérard Luc Tavakilian, for his contributions to the knowledge of Neotropical Cerambycidae .

Comments. S. tavakiliani sp. nov. is easily identified by the pattern of black spots on the pronotum and elytra.
