Ventral side of body and legs covered with grayish pubescence.

Antennae reaching apices of the elytra at apex of antennomere VI. Sides of prothorax rounded, without tubercles; single line of minute punctures near posterior margin. Elytra with apices semicircularly emarginate, external angle projecting in minute tooth. Punctures very scattered on basal half. Fifth urotergite rounded at apex; fifth urosternite transversely truncate at distal extremity. Metatarsomere I as long as II + III.

Female. Antennae reaching apices of elytra at the apex of antennomere VII. Ovipositor projecting slightly beyond elytral apices; fifth urotergite and urosternite transversely truncate at apex.

Measurements (mm), male/female. Total length, 6.0–6.5/5.1–6.5; prothorax length, 1.2–1.2/1.0–1.1; prothorax width, 1.5–1.6/1.5–1.6; elytral length, 4.2–4.5/3.7–4.5; humeral width, 1.8–2.0/1.7–2.1.

Type material. Holotype male, MEXICO. Veracruz: Volcán San Martin, SE slope, 31.VII.1959, B. & B. Valentine col. ( MNRJ). Paratypes, male, same data ( EMEC). Lake Catemaco, male, 8–16.VIII.1960, S. F. Howden col. ( CNCI). 16 km W Santecomapan, 2 females, 113. IV.1993, J. E. Wappes col. ( ACMT). Chiapas: 12 km S Palenque, female, 3.IX.1982, Clark & Cave col. ( MNRJ).

Comments. S. flavoguttata sp. nov. has in common with S. polygramma the yellow spots on the elytra, but in the new species the spots are rounded and arranged in a different pattern than those of S. polygramma ; also, there is no longitudinal yellow line in the middle of the pronotum.
