Diagnosis. Adult ( Fig. 9 View FIGURE 2 – 11 ) with wingspan 11.0−13.5 mm. Cochylidia richteriana can be easily distinguished from its congeners by the forewing having an ochreous spot above the dorsum between the outer margin of the median fascia and the pretornal spot. It is very similar to C. subroseana roseotincta ( Razowski, 1960) , but C. richteriana can be distinguished by the socius separated in the distal half and the valva with a nearly straight costal margin in the male genitalia ( Fig. 18 View FIGURE 18 – 20 ); and the sterigma nearly triangular, narrowed from the lateral side of the ostium bursae to a pointed apex in the female genitalia ( Fig. 25 View FIGURE 21 – 26 ). In C. subroseana roseotincta the socius is separated from the base to apex, and the costal margin of the valva is concave in the male genitalia; and the sterigma is nearly oval basally and produced posterolaterally to a slender band in the female genitalia.

Distribution. China (Beijing, Hebei, Heilongjiang, Hunan, Inner Mongolia, Liaoning, Ningxia, Qinghai, Shandong, Shanxi, Sichuan, Tianjin), Mongolia, Korea, Japan, Russia, Europe.

Hostplants. Artemisia sp. ( Kawabe 1982).
