Heteroconger hassi (Klausewitz & Eibl-Eibesfeldt 1959) — Spotted garden eel, Hass' garden eel

Status at New Ireland. New record, based on a specimen photographed at Lissenung Island, Kavieng District, by Dean Tully at 7 m depth on 4 July 2011, and at 20 m depth on 23 Sept. 2012.

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2.—General distribution: East Africa and Mascarenes east to Wake Atoll, Tonga, Samoa and Line Islands, north to Ryukyu and Ogasawara islands, south to northwestern Australia, Queensland ( Australia) and New Caledonia. Found on sand bottoms, 1–45 m depth. Marine.
