Status at New Ireland. First recorded from Matanalaua River, New Hanover, by Munro (1958: 133); record confirmed by Parin (1967: 35).

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1.—General distribution: East Africa, Seychelles, Comores and western Mascarenes east to Hawaiian Islands, Easter Island and Sala-y-Gomez Ridge, north to central Japan and Ogasawara Islands, south to Kimberleys (Western Australia), Lord Howe Island, New Caledonia, Kermadec Islands and Rapa, 0–3 m depth. Transitional water and marine.
