Status at New Ireland. First recorded from northern New Ireland by Dawson (1985: 69), based on USNM 217475 View Materials (1) from Nusa Island , Kavieng District. A specimen photographed at Lissenung Island by Dietmar Amon on 10 Dec. 2009.

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2.—General distribution: Indonesia east to Society Islands, north to Ryukyu Islands, south to northern Australia and New Caledonia. Found solitary, in pairs or small groups, in caves or under ledges of lagoon and seaward coral reefs, 0–57 m depth. Marine.
