Cosmocampus maxweberi (Whitley 1933) —Weber's pipefish

Status at New Ireland. New record, based on NTUM 11190 (CP4455-15), 1 specimen, 85.2 mm SL, northeast of Bauddisson Island .

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2.—General distribution: Red Sea east to Samoa, south to Queensland ( Australia). Found on coralline rock in coral reefs, 0–60 m depth. Marine.

Remarks. This specimen also documents a new depth record; adults of this species live to depths of at least 60 metres (previously known to depths of 36 metres).
