Status at New Ireland. New record, based on a specimen observed at Nemto Island, New Hanover , 1–50 m depth, St. T 23, on 7 Nov. 2006, by Gerald R. Allen.

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1.—General distribution: Red Sea, East and South Africa, Aldabra, Comores and Mauritius (Mascarenes) east to Mariana Islands and Phoenix Islands ( Kiribati), north to southern Japan, south to Western Australia, New Caledonia and Tonga. Found among branches of Pocillopora coral heads, 2–15 m depth. Marine.
