Status at New Ireland. New record, based on a specimen observed at Selapiu Island, Kavieng District , 1–31 m depth, St. T 14, on 3 Nov. 2006, by Gerald R. Allen.

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2.—General distribution: Red Sea, East and South Africa and Mauritius (Mascarenes) east to Marshall Islands, Tonga and Samoa, north to Ryukyu Islands, south to Western Australia and Queensland ( Australia). Solitary or in small groups in reefs, 2–200 m depth. Marine.
