Status at New Ireland. New record, based on specimens observed at Kavieng fish market in 2004–2005 by Jeff Kinch during CFMDP Survey. Specimens photographed at Lissenung Island by Dietmar Amon on 11 Oct. 2007 .

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2.—General distribution: Persian Gulf east to Philippines, north to southern Japan, south to northern Australia. Found in large aggregations over soft bottom near reefs, 1–25 m depth. Marine.
