Status at New Ireland. New record, based on specimens observed by Jeff Kinch during CFMDP Survey at Kavieng fish market in 2004–2005, and by Barry C. Russell on 14 and 21 June 2014.

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2.—General distribution: Persian Gulf east to Philippines and Papua New Guinea, north to Taiwan, south to northern Australia. Juveniles in coastal and seaward reefs, adults in deep water, 10–40 m depth. Marine.
