Pomadasys argenteus (Forsskål in Niebuhr 1775) View in CoL —Silver grunt

Status at New Ireland. First recorded from Matanalaua River , New Hanover by Munro (1958: 201). Specimens observed at Kavieng fish market in 2004–2005 by Jeff Kinch during CFMDP Survey, and by Barry C. Russell on 7 June 2014 .

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Red Sea and East Africa east to Philippines and New Guinea, north to southern Japan, south to northern Australia and New Caledonia. Found on sand or mud bottoms, entering estuaries and lower reaches of rivers, 1–115 m depth. Fresh water, transitional water and marine.
