Lethrinus ornatus Valenciennes in Cuvier & Valenciennes 1830 —Ornate emperor

Status at New Ireland. First recorded from Drei Inseln Harbour , New Hanover by Munro (1958: 203). Specimens observed by Jeff Kinch during CFMDP Survey at Kavieng fish market in 2004–2005, and by Barry C. Russell on 7 and 28 June 2014.

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Sri Lanka east to Philippines and New Guinea, north to Ryukyu Islands, south to Queensland ( Australia). Solitary or in groups, in seagrass areas and on sand or rubble bottoms adjacent to coral reefs, 5–30 m depth. Marine.
