Status at New Ireland. New record, based on a video of a specimen taken at Bauddisson Island, Kavieng District, at 1–35 m depth, St. KR56, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell).

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2.—General distribution: Malay Peninsula east to Line Islands, north to Ryukyu and Ogasawara islands, south to northern Australia. Found in lagoons and seaward coral reef slopes, 3– 45 m depth. Marine.
