Status at New Ireland. New record, based on specimens photographed on 2 June 2013, first dive, during ACIAR Aquarium Survey at Kavieng; a video of a specimen taken off Nubilus Island, off southeastern New Hanover , at 3– 32 m depth, St. KR 88, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell).
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Red Sea, East and South Africa east to northern Line and Tuamotu islands, north to southern Japan, south to Exmouth Gulf (Western Australia), New South Wales ( Australia), Lord Howe and Norfolk islands and Rapa. Found in coral-rich areas of shallow lagoon and semi-protected seaward coral reefs, 0–30 m depth. Marine.
