Status at New Ireland. New record, based on specimens observed in Kavieng Lagoon by Jeff Kinch during ACIAR Aquarium Survey in 2013 (see Teitelbaum et al. 2013: 15).

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2.—General distribution: South Africa; Indonesia east to Philippines and New Guinea, north to southern Japan, south to northern Australia. Found in coastal and seaward coral reefs, 5– 40 m depth. Marine.
