Dischistodus melanotus (Bleeker 1858) —Black-vent damselfish

Status at New Ireland. New record, based on specimens at St. KVGPMT 27 in Kavieng District by Serge Andréfouët on 16 Aug. 2014; a video of a specimen taken at Nubilus Island, off eastern New Hanover , at 3–32 m depth, St. KR 88, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell).

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Malaysia and Indonesia east to Yap and Papua New Guinea, south to Queensland ( Australia). Found in sheltered coral reefs and lagoons, 1–10 m depth. Marine.
