Stegastes nigricans View in CoL (Lacepède [ex Commerson] 1802)—Dusky gregory

Status at New Ireland. New record, based on a specimen observed at Selapiu Island, Kavieng District, 1–6 m depth, St. T 15, on 3 Nov. 2006, by Gerald R. Allen; also observed south of Nemto Island , New Hanover, 1–12 m depth, St. T 24, on 7 Nov. 2006, by Gerald R. Allen.

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Red Sea, East Africa, Madagascar and Mascarenes east to Tuamotu Archipelago, north to Ryukyu Islands and Wake Atoll, south to Western Australia, New Caledonia and Tonga. Found among dead branching corals, 1–12 m depth. Marine.
