Status at New Ireland. New record, based on a specimen photographed at St. KVGPMT43 (east of Bauddisson Island, Kavieng District) by Serge Andréfouët on 21 Aug. 2014; a video of a specimen taken at Kawauiliaka Island , off northeastern New Hanover , at 3–12 m depth, St. KR 132, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell).

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Aldabra, Saint Brandon's Shoals and Mascarenes east to Wake Atoll, Line Islands and Tuamotu Archipelago, south to Western Australia, New Caledonia and Tonga. Found in rubble and boulder areas, 0–5 m depth. Marine.
