Status at New Ireland. New record, based on specimens photographed on 1 and 3 June 2013 during ACIAR Aquarium Survey in Kavieng District (see Teitelbaum et al. 2013: 15); another at St. KVG 17 on the Bismarck Sea side of northern Kavieng District by Serge Andréfouët on 18 Aug. 2014; a video of a specimen taken at Alexander Passage, off southeastern New Hanover , at 5–14 m depth, St. KR 96, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell).
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Cocos-Keeling Islands (eastern Indian Ocean) and Indonesia east to Caroline Islands and Vanuatu, north to Philippines and Ogasawara Islands, south to northern Australia and New Caledonia. Found solitary or in small groups, in coral-rich areas of coastal, lagoon and seaward coral reefs, 2–30 m depth. Marine.
