Status at New Ireland. New record, based on a video of a specimen taken from Senta Passage, off eastern New Hanover, 5–16 m depth, at St. KR 118, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell); a specimen observed at Nusa Channel , Kavieng District , 1–19 m depth, St. T 2, on 30 Oct. 2006, by Gerald R. Allen.
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Red Sea, East Africa, Seychelles, Madagascar and Mascarenes east to Hawaiian Islands, north to southern Japan, south to Lord Howe Island and New Caledonia, and Marquesas Islands. Found in rubble or seagrass areas, 2–100 m depth. Marine.
