Pteropsaron levitoni Iwamoto 2014 —Leviton’s duckbill

Status at New Ireland. New record, based on NTUM 11061 (1 female, 50.7 mm SL, St. DW 4414-1, northeast of Bangatang), NTUM 11214 (1 female, 53.4 mm SL, St. DW 4456-16, northeast of Bangatang), NTUM 11235 (1 female, 52.0 mm SL, St. CP 4457-26, northeast of Bangatang Island ), NTUM 11330 (1 male, 38.5 mm SL, St. CP 4492-8, off northwest coast of New Hanover), and NTUM 11290 (1 male, 34.1 mm SL, St. DW 4487-7, off northwest coast of New Hanover).

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Philippines to Papua New Guinea (Morobe, New Britain). Found on soft bottoms of the continental slope, 60–280 m depth. Marine.

Remarks. This species was recently recorded from Morobe and New Britain, Papua New Guinea by Fricke (2015: 4).
