Status at New Ireland. New record, based on a video of a specimen taken at Nusakelo Island, off eastern New Hanover, at 5–12 m depth, St. KR 114, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell); a specimen observed at Nusa Channel , Kavieng District , 1–19 m depth, St. T 2, on 30 Oct. 2006, by Gerald R. Allen.

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Red Sea, East Africa, Seychelles and Réunion (western Mascarenes) east to Marshall Islands and Samoa, north to Yaeyama Islands, south to Chesterfield Islands, Grande Terre Group and Loyalty Islands ( New Caledonia). Found on sand bottoms of coastal and seaward reefs, associated with an alpheid shrimp, 6–35 m depth. Marine.
