Status at New Ireland. New record, based on specimens photographed at Lissenung Island, Kavieng District, at 9 m depth, by Dean Tully on 9 Oct. 2010; a video of a specimen taken in Senta Passage, southeast of New Hanover at 5–16 m depth, St. KR 118, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell).

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Andaman Sea east to Micronesia and Solomon Islands, north to Hong Kong, south to northern Australia. Found in silty or sandy areas of lagoons and bays, usually in pairs and lives in a burrow under rocks, 1–15 m depth. Marine.
