Status at New Ireland. First recorded from Kavieng, New Ireland as Teuthis oramin by Duncker & Mohr (1929: 74), based on ZMH 16273. Specimens observed by Jeff Kinch during CFMDP Survey at Kavieng fish market in 2004–2005, and by Barry C. Russell during 7–28 June 2014.
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2.—General distribution: Persian Gulf east to Philippines and New Guinea, north to Ryukyu Islands, south to northern Australia. In aggregations in seagrass beds, 1–4 m depth. Marine.
