Status at New Ireland. New record, based on specimens observed by Jeff Kinch during CFMDP Survey at Kavieng fish market in 2004–2005.

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2.—General distribution: Red Sea and East Africa east to Hawaiian and Tuamotu islands, north to Ryukyu and Ogasawara islands, south to Queensland ( Australia). Found in schools above seaward coral reefs, 2–50 m depth. Marine.
