Status at New Ireland. New record, based on a specimen observed on north coast of Kavieng District , 2–24 m depth, St. T 7, on 1 Nov. 2006, by Gerald R. Allen.
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2.—General distribution: Red Sea, East and South Africa and Mascarenes east to Hawaiian Islands and Pitcairn Group, north to southern Japan and Ogasawara Islands, south to Australia, New Caledonia, Lord Howe Island and Norfolk Island. Found on sand-rubble bottoms of seaward reefs, 8–186 m depth. Marine.
