Reported from Greece by Arvanitidis (1994) and Chatzigeorgiou et al. (2016). The relationships within the species of the Filograna / Salmacina complex and the characters used to distinguish species and genera are still a matter of debate ( Nogueira and ten Hove 2000). Filograna is usually considered operculate and Salmacina non-operculate, but mixed colonies have been found, questioning the validity of the character. Fauvel (1927) considers the three taxa Filograna implexa , Salmacina dysteri (Huxle, 1855) and Salmacina incrustans Claparède, 1870 to be separate species, a view which is also tentatively followed by Nogueira and ten Hove (2000) until more information becomes available. They recommend using locally applied names for each of the species. We follow this view here and list all three species as separate, pending further taxonomic investigation. Greek specimens were identified using the key of Bianchi (1981).
