Camptothlipsis Enderlein, 1920: 166 ; Type species: Camptothlipsis costalis Enderlein, 1920 , by original designation; Shenefelt, 1970b: 378 [catalogue]; Bhat & Gupta, 1977: 78 [key, descriptions]; Tobias, 1976: 214 [synonym of Baeognatha Kokujev, 1903 View in CoL ]; Nixon, 1986: 229 [synonym of Baeognatha View in CoL ]; Simbolotti & van Achterberg, 1992: 6 [synonym of Bassus View in CoL ]; Sharkey et al. 2006: 556 [synonym of Bassus View in CoL ]; Sharkey et al., 2009: 35 View Cited Treatment [reinstated]; Stevens et al., 2010: 8 [synonym of Baeognatha View in CoL ]; Achterberg & Long, 2010: 47 View Cited Treatment [reinstated, key].

Comments. Camptothlipsis is also known from the Ethiopian, Holarctic and Oriental regions. A diagnosis for the genus (as Baeognatha ) based on Australian material is provided in Stevens et al. (2010). The recent taxonomic history of the genus has been rather unstable largely due to differing opinions on the status and definition of several related genera. Simbolotti and van Achterberg (1992) synonymised Camptothlipsis with Bassus , as did Sharkey et al. (2006). Sharkey et al. (2009) reinstated it as a valid genus, only to have it synonymised with Baeognatha by Stevens et al. (2010). Most recently Achterberg and Long (2010) have removed it from synomymy and recognised it as a valid taxon.

The genus is represented by six species in Australia that occur in the Timorian, Torresian and northern Kosciuskan regions of the continent. Here we describe the first Australian species of which sequence data is included in a molecular study of the Australian Agathidinae , the results of which are to be published elsewhere.
