Type material: Holotype: female from Ribeira, Itabaiana [10°40' S; 37°25' W], Sergipe, Brazil, 17 November 2002, N. Zyngier, deposited in IBSP 36793.
Etymology. The specific name is a noun in apposition that refers to the type locality.
Diagnosis. The females of Scytodes itabaiana n.sp. are distinguished from those of the remaining species of Neotropical Scytodes by the small C-shaped positioning ridges with half moon-shaped foveas in the epigynum ( Fig. 8 View FIGURES 1 – 9. 1 – 6 ) and by the vulva with large, oval hyaline pockets with lateral elongate sclerotized areas ( Fig. 9 View FIGURES 1 – 9. 1 – 6 ).
Description. Male unknown.
Female (Holotype, IBSP 36793) Carapace very light brown with dark brown pattern as shown on Fig. 7 View FIGURES 1 – 9. 1 – 6 . Chelicerae orange with longitudinal, dorsal, brown stripe. Pedipalps orange with longitudinal markings. Labium brown. Endites pale yellow, brown at base. Sternum orange with slightly darker margins. Legs orange. Femur I–IV with pair of longitudinal rows of small brown markings. Abdomen badly preserved, gray with undistinguishable black pattern. Total length 2.9. Carapace domed, 1.3 long, 1.5 wide. Eye diameters: PME 0.10, ALE 0.08, PLE 0.10. Lateral eyes on a tubercle. Chelicerae with subapical hyaline keel and inconspicuous stridulatory ridges. Labium 0.07 long, 0.17 wide. Sternum 1.34 long, 0.60 wide. Leg measurements: I: femur 1.22, patella 0.3, tibia 1.34, metatarsus 1.36, tarsus 0.4, total 4.62; II: 1.04, 0.3, 1.0, 1.04, 0.28, 3.66; III: 0.84, 0.3, 0.62, 0.76, 0.28, 2.8; IV: 1.22, 0.3, 1.04, 1.1, 0.34, 4.0. Palpal femur with stridulatory pick long and slender with rounded and projected socket. Epigynum with C-shaped positioning ridges with half moon-shaped foveas, separated from each other by six times their width ( Fig. 8 View FIGURES 1 – 9. 1 – 6 ). Vulva with large, rounded spermathecae on very short stalk and large hyaline pockets with elongate lateral sclerotized areas ( Fig. 9 View FIGURES 1 – 9. 1 – 6 ). Abdomen 1.6 long, 1.5 wide, covered with slender hairs.
Distribution. Atlantic Forest. Only known from the type locality, in the northeastern state of Sergipe.
