Standard measurements of 2 specimens from Turkey and 11 specimens from other localities are given in Table 2 .

Type material deposition. Lectotype and paralectotypes in ZMMU.

Type material examined. Four paralectotypes ex Chionomys nivalis , RUSSIA: Dagestan, 12 and 14 August

1950, coll. I.G. Ioff.

Comparative material examined. Four larvae (ZMMU) ex Prometheomys schaposchnikowi , GEORGIA: Suat’isi (42° 37' 47" N, 44° 22' 55" E), 24 August 1951, coll. I.N. Razumova, det. E.G. Schluger; 2 larvae (ZISP) (not measured) ex Chionomys nivalis , ARMENIA: Shirak Prov., Musayelyan (40° 45' 55" N, 43° 59' 27" E, 1729 m a.s.l.), 28 August 1979, coll. I.V. Panova GoogleMaps ; 3 larvae (ZISP) ex Apodemus (Sylvaemus) sp., RUSSIA: Karachay- Cherkessia, 5.8 km E from Pkhiya , 43° 35' 36" N, 41° 01' 19" E, 1770 m a.s.l., 9 August 1995 GoogleMaps , coll. AAS; 5 larvae (ZISP) (not measured) ex Microtus (Terricola) sp. and A. (Sylvaemus) sp., RUSSIA: Kabardino-Balkaria, Bezengi gorge, 43° 09' 24" N, 43° 12' 12" E, 1750 m a.s.l., 16 June 1996 GoogleMaps , coll. AAS.

Material from Turkey examined. Two larvae (ZISP) ex Microtus majori and Apodemus (Sylvaemus) sp., Artvin Prov., 2.8 km NE from Marsis Mt, 2400 m a.s.l., 24 June 1998, coll. AAS.

Hosts. Chionomys gud (Satunin) , Ch. nivalis (Martins) , Microtus majori Thomas , Cricetulus migratorius (Pallas) , Prometheomys schaposchnikowi Satunin , Apodemus (Sylvaemus) sp.

Distribution. Georgia, Russia (North Ossetia, Dagestan). Kudryashova (1993b, 1998) questioned the record of X. tarda from Azerbaijan ( Mulyarskaya 1968). Here this species is, for the first time, recorded in Turkey, Armenia, Karachay-Cherkessia, and Kabardino-Balkaria.

Remarks. Kudryashova (1998) supposed that this species and Xinjiangsha monticola ( Kolebinova, 1974) , comb. nov. described from Bulgaria were synonyms, but the latter species, though very similar morphometrically, differs from X. tarda in lesser number of idiosomal setae (NDV 84 vs. 103–122).
